Tucson HVAC Costs
What published national ranges say, what Tucson Electric Power lists for rebates, and what a permit changes. None of this is a Sabino Creek price.
In short
Replacement ranges on this site are cited from HomeAdvisor and labeled as national figures. Rebates are cited from tep.com: heat pump up to $720, central air conditioner up to $600, duct sealing up to $300, mini-split up to $100 per ton, and an AC tune-up up to $160. Those rebates are for Tucson Electric Power customers who use a participating contractor. A Trico account does not get them. The City of Tucson and unincorporated Pima County both require a permit for a central replacement. Checked October 16, 2026.
The three replacement pages
- AC and heat pump replacement costHomeAdvisor’s equipment prices by ton, the TEP table, and the permit note.
- Heat pump costHomeAdvisor’s installed ranges by ton. TEP lists up to $720. That is not the price.
- Furnace replacement costHomeAdvisor’s furnace guide by BTU. The air-conditioner range is not reused here.
Repair, a new air conditioner, and a tune-up
- AC repair costHomeAdvisor’s national repair ranges, including capacitors, compressors, and refrigerant.
- New AC costHomeAdvisor’s published replacement range, kept separate from a repair.
- Tune-up costHomeAdvisor’s national maintenance figure, next to TEP’s cooling tune-up rebate.
- TEP rebatesThe Efficient Home amounts, copied from tep.com, with the participating-contractor rule.
How to read a number on this site
A phone quote with no model number is a guess. HomeAdvisor surveys national projects. Tucson labor, a roof installation, a panel that is too small, and attic ducts move the job off those ranges in either direction. We cite the range so a condenser-only swap is not compared with a system that includes ducts. We do not publish a Sabino Creek price list, and we do not subtract a rebate until the account, the equipment, and the contractor on the job qualify.
The decision that sits next to the price is repair or replace. Capacity is what size AC a Tucson home needs. Leaving a gas furnace in place, or taking it out, is dual fuel versus a heat pump and gas-to-heat-pump conversion. Communities, ZIP codes, and which utility is usual there are on service areas.
Water heaters, drains, sewers, slab leaks, and burst pipes are a different set of HomeAdvisor guides. Those ranges, with their own dates, are on the plumbing cost guide. They are not HVAC prices, and a TEP rebate is not a plumbing discount.
