AC Installation in Tucson

A new system should match the house, the ducts, and a desert cooling season. Square footage is not a size, and the cheapest box on a truck is not a plan.

Installation is a different job from a repair. A repair puts a failed part back in service. An installation replaces the system, or puts cooling where the house did not have refrigerated air. Sabino Creek Heating & Cooling does both for Tucson homes. If the equipment you have might still be worth fixing, start with AC repair or read repair or replace before you assume the only path is new equipment.

Tucson’s cooling season is long, and a lot of the ductwork that carries that cooling sits in an attic that is hotter than the yard. A new condenser on leaky or undersized attic ducts gives you a new outdoor unit and the old complaint. That problem is its own page: ducts and attic heat. Sizing is its own page too. What size AC a Tucson home needs is about glass, orientation, insulation, and the ducts — not the square footage on a listing divided by a rule of thumb.

What the house already uses for heat

Many Tucson houses cool with a straight air conditioner and heat with a gas furnace. Others use a heat pump for both. Replacing only the cooling half of a heat pump, or putting a cooling-only condenser on a house that heats from that outdoor unit, is the wrong scope. The winter comparison is heat pump versus gas furnace. If the furnace is the thing that failed, the heating page is furnace repair, not an air-conditioner install.

Two other install decisions are easy to mix up with a whole-house replacement. An evaporative cooler that still works in dry June and quits when the monsoon humidity arrives is swamp cooler versus refrigerated air. A casita, garage conversion, or sunroom the original ducts never reached is often a mini-split, not a reason to abandon a duct system that still serves the main house. Tell us which building you are actually trying to cool.

Price, rebates, and what we will not invent

A firm install number before someone has seen the equipment, the electrical service, the line-set route, and the attic is a guess. We would rather not give you one. The conditions that move a replacement — access, duct repairs, crane or roof work, the heating side — are explained on AC replacement cost. That page also points at the rebate amounts Tucson Electric Power publishes on tep.com. Amounts and rules change, and a rebate is not a reason to replace a system that still fits the house. We do not quote tax credits.

Use the form. Choose Replacement quote if that is the conversation you want, or Not sure if you want the repair-versus-replace fork first. Name, phone, and ZIP are required. Street address is optional. Mention the age of the outdoor unit if you know it, whether the ducts are in the attic, and whether the house heats with a furnace or a heat pump. We follow up the same business day.

Cost and rebates: AC repair cost, new AC cost, TEP rebates. If the cooling is already off, what to do when the AC quits. Heating: heating repair. Areas: Midtown, Flowing Wells, Oro Valley, Marana, Dove Mountain, Catalina Foothills, Tanque Verde, Rita Ranch, Vail, Corona de Tucson, Sahuarita, Casas Adobes, Green Valley, all areas.

Tucson AC installation questions

Sizing, ducts, and why a price before the visit is a guess.

Is AC installation the same visit as a repair?

No. Installation means a new system or a replacement. If the current equipment might still be worth fixing, start with a repair diagnosis. Age alone does not decide it.

How do you choose the size?

Not from square footage alone. A load calculation looks at glass, orientation, insulation, and the ducts. An attic duct problem is a separate part of the job from the condenser.

Can I get a firm price before anyone sees the house?

A firm number before the equipment, the electrical service, and the ducts have been seen is a guess. The form starts the conversation. The visit is when the options mean something.

Do you install heat pumps and central air conditioners?

Yes. Which one fits depends on whether the house heats with a heat pump today or with a gas furnace, and on how the house is built. We say which after we see it.
