Spring in Tucson is a short gap between furnaces and triple-digit afternoons. A system that last ran in October can sit through pollen, pack-rat debris, and a winter of dust and still look fine until the first week you actually need it. The useful test is boring. Put a new filter in if you cannot see light through the old one. Set the thermostat to Cool, fan on Auto, setpoint a few degrees below the room. Walk outside and see whether the fan on the condenser starts and whether air off the top is warmer than the yard. Ten minutes is enough to learn that it runs. It is not a substitute for a contractor opening the panel.
Clearance matters more than people expect after a winter of growth. A palo verde volunteer, a stored trash can, or an HOA screen that was fine in October can sit against the coil by April. The longer note on walls and screens is condenser clearance. Do not pressure-wash the fins. Bent aluminum does not “clean up” into more airflow. Leaves and cottonwood fluff can be lifted off by hand with the disconnect off, if you can do that without forcing anything. If you are not sure which pull is the disconnect, leave it and say so.
The general list you can walk with a clipboard is the HVAC checklist. Houses that were empty for the winter have a separate startup, because the issues are closed-up rooms and a stat left in a setback, on snowbird HVAC startup. This page is the occupied house getting ready for May. Dust that will matter again in storm season is monsoon dust, which is a summer problem you do not solve by skipping the spring filter.
We do not sell a club, a “priority member” tier, or a dollar amount for joining one. If you want the published context for what a tune-up visit is, use HVAC tune-up cost and stay with the citations on that page. Tucson Electric Power, on tep.com’s efficient-home program as read October 15, 2026, lists an AC tune-up rebate up to $160. A participating contractor has to be involved. The finder is tep.com/tep-approved-contractors. Sabino Creek is not on that list. We do not subtract a rebate from a price, and we do not sell the equipment. More of those figures are on TEP rebates.
A referral request for a tune-up is still a referral. We do not perform the maintenance. An independent contractor would. Choose Tune-up, include the ZIP, and say what the short test did: fan started, fan hummed and stalled, or the stat would not call. The form does not reserve a morning.
