A condenser rejects heat. It pulls air across the coil and throws it off the top, or through the fan the manufacturer aimed at the yard. When a sidewall, a built-in barbecue, or a decorative screen sits against that coil, the unit inhales air it just heated. Capacity falls on the hottest afternoons, which is when people notice.
