Tucson houses on slabs hide the water line. There is rarely a basement to walk into, and the valve people remember from another state is not where they left it. Two places show up often enough to name. One is at the meter, usually near the sidewalk or alley, in a box in the gravel. The utility’s valve is there. The other is at the house: a ball valve where copper or PEX comes out of the slab in a garage, a laundry closet, or a mechanical niche beside the water heater. Some houses have both. Some have a gate valve that has not moved since the house was built and will snap if you lean on it.
If water is already going where it should not, close the valve you know how to close. That might be the cold inlet on top of the water heater, which stops the tank from refilling and does not stop cold fixtures. It might be a hose bib’s own stop. It might be the house valve if you have used it before and it turns. Do not start a tour of every handle in a panic, and do not cut a pipe to invent a shutoff. Cutting a pressurized line is how a drip becomes the thing you cannot catch in a bucket. Active water you cannot control is emergency plumber. The form on that page still does not dispatch a truck.
Before a cold night, the reason to find the valve is so you are not searching during a leak. Frozen pipes is about hose bibs and exterior lines on the rare Tucson night that actually freezes, not about a Midwest week of ice. Finding the handle on a calm afternoon is the useful part. Write down where it was, in your own notes. We will not store a map of your house, and we do not come out to locate valves as a service.
A warm spot on a slab floor, or the sound of water with every faucet shut, is not a shutoff puzzle first. It may be a line under the house. That conversation is slab leak detection. A drip at the tank, with the rest of the house dry, stays on water heater leaking. Plumbing requests in general start at plumbing.
Sabino Creek does not turn valves, dig up meters, or perform plumbing. An independent contractor might, if a request is shared and they accept it. Confirm a license at roc.az.gov. Forcing a valve and breaking it is not something this page will coach you through.
If you still want a callback, say which valve you already closed, which one you cannot find, and whether water is active or you are only trying to learn the house. Choose Other plumbing. ZIP required. Submit asks for a phone or email follow-up. It does not schedule a hunt for a handle.
